International & Transfer Students

When you move into The Standard at Charlottesville, don’t worry about moving heavy, bulky furniture. We provide every apartment with custom-designed furnishings for individual bedrooms and common areas.

We recommend bringing items, such as your personal belongings, clothes, bedding, toiletries, pots/pans/dishes/silverware, and any decorations. The major furniture/appliances will be in your apartment at move-in to help make your life simpler! Also, bring a form of Photo ID, such as a license or passport, so that you can check in and receive your keys on move-in day!

Since we lease on a first-come, first-served basis and have limited availability, we offer a Non-Enrollment Addendum for your peace of mind. This allows you to lock in your spot at the current rates—and if you’re not accepted to UVA, simply provide proof of non-acceptance and you can cancel your lease. For more details, reach out to our leasing office!

We offer several options to apply and sign up to live at The Standard at Charlottesville! Students can apply with a guarantor as long as they are at least 25 years old, have a U.S. Social Security Number, and pass a credit and income check. Students applying with a guarantor are required to pay a Security Deposit. If you do not have a qualifying guarantor, there are 3 other ways to qualify!

1. Self-Qualify: If you have a U.S. Social Security Number, make 3x your monthly base rent, and can pass a credit check, you may opt to Self-Qualify. All Self-Qualifying Applicants must provide proof of their income via 3 consecutive pay stubs and are required to pay a Security Deposit equal to 2 installments of the base rent.
2. Guarantor Waiver Program (GWP): If you are a full-time student and do not have a qualifying guarantor, you may opt to use our GWP. You will need to send proof of Full-Time Enrollment and sign a Guarantor Waiver Program Addendum. GWP Applicants are required to pay an additional monthly fee and pay a security deposit.
3. International (I20): If you are an International Student who does not have a qualifying guarantor, you may apply with your I20. International Applicants are required to pay a Security Deposit equal to 2 installments of base rent and send proof of their I20.

Note that all Security Deposits are refundable, pending your move-out inspection and any damages to your apartment.

During the application process, you’ll have the chance to list your preferred roommates. Once you’re approved, each person will need to register for RoomSync, our Roommate Matching Program. By connecting through the app, you’ll notify our team that you’d like to live together.

We offer individual, by-the-bed leasing, so you can secure your spot as soon as you’re ready with your own housing contract. However, because we lease on a first-come, first-served basis, we aren’t able to hold spots for preferred roommates. To increase the chances of living with friends, we recommend signing your leases at the same time.
